This goes for any clowesia or catasetum relative. Despite what the website shows for bare root plants and what to expect, what you actually get is heavily dependent on when you order. These plants break dormancy in the spring and will put out root during this time. THIS IS THE TIME THEY GROW THE MAJORITY OF THEIR ROOTS, damage/loss of these roots will greatly set back the ability of your plant to grow. If you order in the spring, they will be in an active state of growth which is a very bad time to ship. If you want to order, I highly recommend doing this in late summer or fall when the plant is entering or is in dormancy. If you reach out, they will repeatedly tell you that the plants are fine and they are healthy, but if you do any amount of research you'll know that is not the case. It will take a lot of time for them to recover and they will grow roots again if you're diligent and patient. Refer to the link below to see what real experts in the field have to say about the plants I received.

Hi Steven,
Thank you for your valuable feedback. Your insights are incredibly helpful, and based on your suggestions, we are planning to order this type of orchid in the fall next year. Although we did place our orders a month earlier than last year, certain aspects of new growth are still beyond our control.
We currently have stock from last year, and despite the challenges associated with growing these orchids, they have been performing well—some even bloomed. We recommend taking your time to observe their growth before drawing conclusions, especially if you are first time growing udner such conditoin. Additionally, thorough 'amount of research' is advisable before purchasing these orchids in the spring, to set realistic expectations regarding the new growth.
In addition, as you may know, the orchids in our Cycd, Ctsm, Cyc, Clo, and Cl collections are rare finds in Canada. Our preorder sales offer collectors an excellent opportunity to acquire them at a better deal. With proper care, you should have no issues growing them, and they are likely to thrive and improve year after year.
Very pleased
Purchased a phal. that arrived in bad shape (roots mostly rotten - yellow leaves + 1 broken leaf). Customer service answer: I do not know about orchids, that's how bare rooted plants arrive. Having quite large collection and having purchased plants for years, I will avoid that store in the future.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I noticed the photo you posted in our shop review earlier concerning the orchid you received. It appears there has been a misunderstanding in your review about the condition of the orchid and our store policy. We aim to ensure all our orchids are delivered as described, and it's unclear why there would be issues such as 'roots mostly rotten, yellow leaves, + 1 broken leaf,' as we inspect each orchid carefully before dispatch. Additionally, I am concerned about your report regarding our customer service response, as our team is trained in orchid care and committed to providing accurate information.
We highly value open communication and encourage our customers to reach out directly with any issues before leaving a review. This approach allows us to address your concerns promptly and resolve your issue more efficiently.
